The Haven Gateway Partnership has been a strong supporter of the “Once in a Generation – a rail prospectus for East Anglia”.

A copy of this prospectus is available via this link: http://www.newanglia.co.uk/Assets/Files/Content/Rail%20prospectus%20for%20East%20Anglia.pdf

This document and the campaign which has accompanied it, was authored and supported by a strong cross-party and multi-agency alliance of MPs, county councils, Local Enterprise Partnerships, other local authorities, businesses and rail user groups – across the four counties of Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

From the Haven Gateway Partnership’s perspective, there is great significance in the opportunity to achieve major improvements as part of the new Great Eastern Main Line franchise arrangements. The commencement of the new franchise has been deferred until 2016, but all the supporters of the original campaign are working to lobby for short term improvements to the trains during the temporary extension of the current franchise over the intervening period.

The key rail priorities for the Partnership are:
  • securing improvements in the speed, frequency and quality of services on the main London to Norwich line (so by implication the Partnership strongly supports new investment in new passing loops in the Chelmsford area)
  • securing improvements on the branch lines including those to Clacton and Braintree
  • securing the Braintree rail loop to deliver better services direct to London
  • securing a new rail halt at the University of Essex
